Florida From Space

Here’s a great shot of Florida from NASA, taken on Shuttle Mission STS-95, October 31, 1998.

Notice Lake Okeechobee? That’s the big puddle near the center. The lighter patch north of the lake is Orlando. Cumulus clouds cover Miami and parts of the Everglades.

The Florida Keys drape like a necklace across the bottom of the photo in the azure sea. East of them are the Bahamas. A glimpse of Chesapeake Bay can be seen in the northeast corner of the photo. The photo was taken from a space shuttle while flying over Cuba.

Here’s a night time photo from 2017:

This nighttime photo of Florida was taken from the International Space Station by Expedition 51 Flight Engineer Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency, in March 2017. Bright lights of cities stand out, including the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area, the Tampa Bay region along the Gulf Coast, and in the middle, Orlando. Image Credit: ESA/NASA
