Years ago we camped at Oscar Scherer because we couldn’t get into the Myakka River campground (which was flooded). I returned here with the kiddos to get our stamp and to get reacquainted with the park, plus 3/4 of my kids never visited here.
Oscar Scherer State Park is popular due to its close proximately to heavily populated areas. It is composed of 1,400 acres.
What makes this park unique to me is that many state parks are often surrounded by wooded areas, but this park is surrounded all the way up to its borders by housing subdivisions.
If the land wasn’t preserved it would have been turned into a housing subdivision and shopping malls long ago.
We spent all of our time exploring Lake Osprey. There is fishing, a path around the lake, a beach and a swim area. We got wet and I didn’t bring any suits for the kiddos, but luckily I had change of clothes.
There was also a turtle that was not at all shy.
It was HOT when we were there. That’s what I get for going in August, I suppose, so we did not stay as long as I would have liked before retreating to the air conditioning of the van.
Anyway, another gorgeous FL state park! I’m very excited that our stamp collection is really growing now! This is stamp number 11/175. There are 4 other parks that we have been to, but don’t have the stamps for, so we are nearly all caught up!
And we have a camping trip scheduled for Highlands Hammock State Park in a few weeks, which is brand new to us!
Keep exploring!
