Here is everything we know about Iron Gwazi so far.
Some history first — non-BG regulars may not know that there was a duel wooden roller coaster called Gwazi. I liked it. A lot of people didn’t. But I think my memories stretch back to 1999 when the ride was new and smooth.
Overtime the ride got pretty rough, despite a lot of maintenance done on the ride. Eventually, BG closed the ride because of low ridership and visitors complaining about the rough ride.
It was mothballed for years. Which was kind of a stain since the massive structure has a prominent position in the park…just sitting there, unused.
Now, the ride is rising like the phoenix as Iron Gwazi.
- Will be a hybrid steel and wood coaster
- Much of the original Gwazi wooden structure will be incorporated into the Iron Gwazi design
- Rocky Mountain Construction is the company building the ride
- It will be the steepest and tallest hybrid coaster in North America
- The ride will peak at around 206 feet tall and will have a 91 degree drop
- It will be able to reach speeds of 76mph
- It’s supposed to open “Spring 2020.” I imagine that they are trying to get it open for Spring Break.
