The Fun Lan is Tampa’s last old school drive-in theater and is my favorite place to catch a movie.
How to do the movie:
- Get there a bit early to grab a good spot
- Grab your free popcorn
- Tune in your vehicle’s radio channel indicated on your movie’s screen (there are 4 screens total).
- Enjoy the movie.
Tickets cost about $7. You can go to their website to find out about the latest movies that are playing. Also, by day they are a flea market.
So. I have noticed on some travel forums that people are writing things like “MAKE SURE YOU LOCK YOUR DOORS TO KEEP ALL THE CRIMINALS OUT!!!”
My first thought was “weird.”
When I go I set up lawn chairs in front of my car for me, my wife and my kids to sit on (that’s technically breaking the rules, but everybody does it). I have not once noticed roving gangs of criminals trying everybody’s car doors. It could be they are just sneaky. In my personal experience I have been robbed here a total times of zero.
The drive-in theater is certainly in an urban area, but have found that is no reason to WRITE IN ALL CAPS AND USE LOTS OF EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!
The Fun Lan Drive-In Theater in Tampa is awesome. Everybody that calls the Tampa Bay area home should try this daytrip at least one time. It’s a unique experience that you won’t soon forget.

Doing it on the cheap…
It’s already pretty cheap to get in…however, if you go to a movie I have noticed that I typically get a coupon that allows me to see another movie at a discount–the coupon, if memory serves, must be used on Tuesdays.
