I’m pretty sure the Most Interesting Man Dos Equis commercials were based on Randy Wayne White. In high school he competed in football, baseball and springboard diving (of course!) and then traveled for five years until settling in Southwest Florida where he worked for a newspaper for four years, earned his captain’s license, bought a boat and then ran fishing charters for 13 years.
During his captaining time he began writing novels at a furious pace. When you look at the dates on the book list below, just note how many books he pumped out per year. After Uncle Sam closed down Tarpon Bay to powerboat traffic (where he fished from) he turned his hand to writing (and more adventures–like dog sledding in Alaska, reestablishing little league baseball in Cuba and ferrying Cuban refugees to safety) full time.
Today he is still writing away and also finds the time to run Doc Ford Rum Bar & Grill (named after his most famous character) located on Sanibel Island.
