Wow, it’s been over a year since I posted. What the crap?! Even though the blog has been dormant and has the look of being abandoned, I’ve been hard at work on Florida material. Including writing a new book on how to best explore Busch Gardens. Read this post to learn about the book and the future of this blog.
First, about the book:
I have been slaving away at this book off and on for about four years. It was stop and go. Abandonment of the material and then going back to the material. Rewriting huge sections of the book. Tons of editing. Etc…
I went for a long period of time not touching the book and then I thought…What The Crap, Man??! You’ve spent hours working on the book and you abandoned it.
See, I’ve got this awful habit. I get 90% done with a project and then move onto something else. I made the decision that I wouldn’t tolerate this big dumb habit any longer. I gritted my teeth and did a bunch of head down work at my computer, pecking and pecking away at the keys. I did several more tours of Busch Gardens as well to make sure I had the latest information for the book, and after many hours of hard work, I finished the book and it is now available online at Amazon. Yeah!
There may have been times in my life where I felt more accomplished, but I can’t think of them now.
Anyway, I’ve been visiting Busch Gardens for about 15 years and think it is absolutely amazing except for one gigantic flaw: the guidebook world does not adequately cover Busch Gardens.
Yeah, in one major guidebook about Tampa that I read, a 300+ page tome. The authors saw fit to include 2 pages about Busch Gardens. Really? And I saw they weren’t alone, nearly all of the major guidebook publishers skip over Busch Gardens, hardly mentioning it at all. But you better believe they’ll have 100 pages of their “partner” hotels listed.
Anyway, I felt it was my duty to write a guidebook that would do Busch Gardens justice, and I think I did just that: The Florida Explorer’s Guide To Busch Gardens.
To be honest, in my humble opinion, it is the best Busch Gardens guide on the market. I don’t say that to toot my own horn. It’s just the way it is because the big players choose to not give Busch Gardens the coverage it deserves.
My guidebook just doesn’t tell you about Busch Gardens. It tells you how to tour the park like a regular, like I would. I have toured the part so many times that I have developed so many strategies to beat the crowd, spend a quarter of the time other people spend in lines. I’ve studied how the crowd moves through the park. I’ve studied how to get on the most rides in the least time. I’ve also studied the park’s history. How the rides are designed.
I am a bonafide Busch Gardens geek and I put all of it into my book. If you plan to visit Busch Gardens, my book will inform you so you can have a better appreciation of the park, it will teach you how to navigate the park like a regular, and it will teach you how to experience the park on a budget.
Yeah, I’m really proud of my book and I really do believe it is the best book on Busch Gardens you can find. So I hope you check it out!
So now, about the future of this blog.
Yeah, I haven’t posted a single word in over a year.
Part of it is because I have been hard at work on several other projects, including the book. But I launched a new non-Florida blog, which maybe I’ll talk about someday here or maybe I won’t. I’ve also built a couple online businesses so I can pursue my dream of becoming a full-time beach bum. We’ll see how that plays out.
In the meantime, I realized that I still absolutely love exploring Florida and writing about Florida. Also, I realized there is no other blog out there that is like The Florida Explorer; therefore, it is my sacred duty to continue to build this blog and to continue to write so people can get more information to better supplement their own Florida exploring.
Moving forward, the blog will mainly focus on things to do, such as daytrips, and budget Florida travel. There will be some other stuff too, but things to do and budget travel will be the focus.
There will be an overhaul of the blog too, making it look much more presentable. So you may see some things moving around as I’m working on it. I’m not a professional web designer, so it’s not gonna be the greatest blog design of all time, but it will be better than what it is now.
