Live in the Tampa Bay area? Then you can get a free 152-page recreation guide to the area’s District owned lands. Includes detailed maps of lands, trails, and paths. But order soon, there’s a limited quantity available.
The guide is put out by the Southwest Florida Water Management District, an agency charged to protect and preserve our water resources. They oversee about 10,000 square miles in all or part of 16 counties. If you live in those areas you are eligible to order the guide.
The District’s public lands are available for recreational use. My primary purpose for visiting the lands is hiking. But they can be used for a myriad of outdoor pursuits. Biking, birding, boating, camping, canoeing, equestrian, fishing, hunting, jogging, photography, picnicking…the list goes on.
The lands really are gorgeous. Below are a couple examples of what you will see.
