Day Trip: Tampa Bay Rays Baseball

The Tampa Bay Rays are the region’s Major League Baseball team and have been since 1998. They play home games at Tropicana Field (“The Trop”) in St. Petersburg, compete in the American League, made several playoff runs and makes for a good day trip.

Quick Info:
Location: 1 Tropicana Dr, St. Petersburg, FL 33705
Admission: Varies, average ticket is approximately $44. But the nosebleed section is in the $20 range 🙂
Parking: $15 – $30
Tickets: Purchase here (Official Rays Ticket Site) or check for Groupon deals which are much cheaper. If there is nothing on Groupon I recommend purchasing tickets at the stadium because then you won’t have to pay the online “convenient” fees which can increase the cost of your ticket by as much as 30%.

Here’s the 2016 opening day commercial for the Rays:

The Rays’ best season was in 2008 when they made a run to the World Series, but they ultimately lost to the Philadelphia Phillies. Unfortunately, most Rays’ seasons have been subpar and uninspiring. They have no World Series championships and usually hang out in the American League basement. However, I have got a feeling that the Rays are about to turn the page and start a new era of exceptional baseball! Until then, you can still enjoy the phenomenal play of the visiting teams and their stars!

But seriously, I had a good time when I brought my family. When we entered the stadium, a security guard gave my son a used game ball and my boy thought it was awesome. Our seats were deep in left field and we could see the game just fine. Also, I know one of the sports photographers working the game and she texted us photos of me and my family from across the field throughout the game. It was pretty funny…well, it was for me. I guess you had to be there.

Anyway, if you love Tampa Bay sports, you should check out the Tampa Yankees (minor league team, but great fun to watch) or check out the Tampa Bay Rowdies which is Tampa Bay’s soccer team; and their games are a blast!
